How to use this tool
Drop in files, as many as you like up to 200 MB in total, remove any you added by mistake, and click Create & Download .zip. Files are compressed with DEFLATE, the standard method that Windows, macOS and every unzip program can open.
How much zipping saves: three measured files
- A CSV export of 5,000 invoice lines: 319 KB became 46 KB, 85% smaller, because the same dates, city names and column patterns repeat on every line.
- A 2.68 MB PNG screenshot: 2.56 MB, only 4% smaller, because PNG is already compressed with the same method.
- A 2.19 MB JPG made from the same screenshot: 1.91 MB, 13% smaller.
So zip text, CSV, JSON and log files to make them smaller, and zip photos, PDFs and videos to send one file instead of many. If a JPG attachment is too large, the Image Compressor will do far more than zipping it.
Files with the same name
A zip can't hold two entries with the same name, and photos from two phones or two folders often share names like IMG_0001.jpg. The second copy is added as IMG_0001 (2).jpg rather than replacing the first. Names that differ only in capital letters count as the same, because they would overwrite each other when unzipped on Windows. All files go at the top level of the zip; folders aren't recreated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a password to the zip?
No. The zip is created without encryption, so anyone who receives it can open it. For sensitive documents, share them through a service with access control, or encrypt the zip with a program such as 7-Zip, which offers AES-256 encryption.
Can I preserve a folder structure in the resulting zip?
No. Every file is placed at the top level of the zip under its own name, even if you selected files from several folders. If the structure matters, zip the folder with the "Compress" or "Send to → Compressed folder" option built into macOS and Windows.
Is there a limit on how many files I can add?
No count limit; the files together can be up to 200MB. The zip is built in a background worker, so the page stays responsive, and a progress bar shows how far it has got.
