How to use this tool
Add two or more PDFs, put them in order with the up and down arrows, and click Merge & Download PDF. The pages are copied into a new file, merged.pdf, in list order: all of the first file, then all of the second. If one file can't be used, the message names it.
What comes across, and what doesn't
Tested with a 3-page PDF that has a bookmark for each chapter and a fillable "customer name" box, merged with a plain 2-page PDF:
- All 5 pages arrive unchanged: text stays selectable and images keep their resolution, because nothing is re-rendered.
- The bookmarks do not. The merged file is a new document that receives only pages, so the side panel of chapter links is empty.
- The form box is still drawn on page 1, but it is no longer a field you can type into, since the form itself isn't copied. Fill in and save forms before merging.
Files that are refused
Any encrypted PDF is refused, including one that opens without asking for a password but restricts printing or copying: its content is encrypted all the same, and it can't be copied without the owner's password. The message says which file it is. Remove the protection in the program that set it, or ask the sender for an unprotected copy, then merge again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do links inside the documents still work after merging?
Links to websites do, because they are part of each page and are copied with it. Links that jump to another page of the same document do not: in a test, a contents link on page 1 pointing to page 3 no longer led to any page after merging, since it still referred to the page in the original file. Long reports with a clickable contents page lose that navigation.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted files, whether they need a password to open or only restrict printing and copying, are refused with a message naming the file. Remove the protection first, in the program that applied it or with the owner password, and then merge.
Is there a limit to how many PDFs I can merge at once?
No fixed count limit — the constraint is total combined file size, capped at 200MB across all files. Merge as many PDFs as you need as long as their combined size stays under that limit.
